Our team attended the 241st Electrochemical Society Meeting in Vancouver! Maxime, Adrian, Vanesa, Emre and Toni contributed with five oral presentations. Maxime contributed a talk entitled “Towards bottom-up design of porous electrode microstructures - an approach coupling evolutionary algorithms and pore network modelling”, Adrian gave an oral presentation entitled “Engineering electrodes with bimodal pore size distributions for next-generation electrochemical devices”, Vanesa contributed a talk entitled “Understanding the interaction between flow field geometries and porous electrode microstructures in redox flow batteries”, Emre contributed a presentation entitled “Electrografting as a versatile approach to engineer porous electrode interfaces for redox flow batteries” (presented by Toni due to travel restrictions), and Toni gave an oral presentation entitled “Neutron radiography as a powerful method to visualize reactive flows in redox flow batteries”.

Dr. Kiran Bhatia joins our team as postdoctoral researcher! Kiran is an expert on the synthesis and characterization of novel monometallic/ binary metal foam catalysts by means of electrodeposition, which is pertinent to that of power to value concept such as for electrochemical CO2 reduction. She recently obtained her PhD thesis at the University of Bern, Switzerland. At TU/e, her work will focus on developing novel catalyst architectures on 3d printed electrodes in reversible alkaline fuel cells (RAFC) for space applications. Welcome on board!

In this exciting research program (FAIR-RFB), we will push the boundaries of fundamental science to develop new battery materials and enable new reactor architectures for low cost energy storage.
